    Given the sensitivity of the X-ray scattering phenomenon to the solely electronic density variations, regardless of the structure or size of the crystal domains considered, small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) techniques seem particularly suitable to study the size distributions of metal particles on supports. The first work on the characterization of metallic particles on supported catalysts was carried out in the late 1990s by Haubold [13–16] and Benedetti [17,18]. The model systems studied consisted of noble metal particles (Pt or Au) more or less loaded (<1% to 10% by weight of metal) on graphitic matrix.
