Abstract

A convenient synthesis of the complexes trans-[PtCl(COEt)(PMePh2)2] and trans-[PtCl(COEt)(PMe2Ph)2] is described, and their NMR spectra in the presence of SnCl2 are discussed. These complexes have been examined as catalysts in 1-hexene hydroformylation in the presence of an excess of SnCl2. Their catalytic behaviour is compared with that of the systems based on complexes trans-[PtCl(COEt)(PPh3)2], trans-[PtHCl(PPh3)2], trans-[PtHCl(PEt3)2], and cis-[PtCl2(PPh3)2].
