The aim is to trace the cultural and historical circumstances amid which this discipline began to be taught in the Foreign Languages and Literatures Department in Venice and to recount its story: its main features, the turnover of professors and language assistants who imprinted their personal mark on its growth and development, and the importance of its special contribution to the life of Ca’ Foscari University, both from an institutional and a cultural point of view.
